Acupuncture treatment works entirely through Jing Luo (经络) – Meridians & Collaterals in helping the patient’s body to re-initiate the self-healing without any medication. The TCM doctor inserts various sizes of acupuncture needles into certain acupoints along the meridians to release the flow of Qi – vital life force energy, boost blood circulation and regulate the whole body’s organ systems. Needling those acupuncture points will activate the brain activity and the central nervous system to release natural chemicals – beta-endorphins and enkephalins which are natural painkillers that inhibit afferent pain fibers to help relieve all kinds of pain. Those natural chemicals stimulate the body’s innate self-healing system as well as regulate the autonomic nervous system to achieve both the physical and psychological well-being of a person.

How often should one have acupuncture treatment?

It depends on the person’s medical problems. However, acupuncture normally runs 12 sessions as a course of treatment. While some patients may only require one course of treatment, others might need a longer duration of treatment if their problems are more severe and chronic.

The patient needs to eat some light food 1 hour before receiving the treatment so that the body can anchor the stimulated Qi – vital life force – energy in the body.

How long does each acupuncture treatment take, and how much does it cost?

An acupuncture session lasts 30 to 40 minutes and will cost CHF 115 to CHF 125.

If it is a total combined treatment with acupuncture, Moxibustion, IR lamp, cupping and Tui Na massage, it takes approximately 1 hour. A combined treatment costs CHF 165.

Some patients may feel “tired” after an acupuncture treatment and this is due to the release of those natural relaxing chemicals from the central nervous system of the body. That means the person is very relaxed after the treatment.

Sometimes, one of the acupuncture points may bleed a bit and this can be a normal effect as well as a side effect. You may see some bruising on the following day, it will disappear in just a few days.
